This work is a medley of 3 previously recorded pieces of contrasting style, meter and tempos: Cloud Theory is a haunting ECM-like ballad which has solo opportunities for tenor or alto; this quickly transitions to Sum Blues which is a medium swing minor blues with a bridge containing a section of various solos that get added together with each chorus or collective solos. The closing piece, Café LeRenoir is another ECM influenced work but done as a slow jazz waltz. Medium difficulty level 4. The brass ranges are easy trumpet 1 written to Bb5 (just above the staff ) and E4 (trombone) but the transitions and chord changes are rather challenging. The medley can be heard on the John Paulson Big Band Project CD & DVD.
